Birthday Gifts for Ellie, plus a DIY Felt Crown!

I've been working hard putting the finishing touches on my new pattern (I hope to have it available for sale by next week) but in the meantime I wanted to share some of the things that I made for Ellie for her birthday.

Ellie's REALLY into her baby doll right now.  She asked me to make her a dress with a matching dress for her doll.  "And a crown!! Mommy, we both need crowns!"  Ok, ok.  I guess it is your birthday after all. But she didn't just want crowns and clothes...

The last time we were at JoAnns Ellie found this adorable fairy fabric and begged me to make her something with it.  I ended up turning it into a suitcase...

which I stuffed with baby doll goodies.  Do you recognize the fairy dress?  Yes, Ellie's baby doll got a matching fairy dress...just like Ellie's Halloween costume!  Isn't it cute in mini-size?
And then yes, there was the felt crowns.  Do you like them?
The crowns were actually pretty simple to make.  Want to make your own?  I'll give you a few tips!

The crown itself is made of two pieces of felt sewn together.  I added felt flower embellishments by hand.  What gives the crown strength though is the secret inside ring...it's from an embroidery hoop!  I just hot glued the crown on around the hoop.
I tacked on 1/8th inch elastic on each side.  Pretty easy right?
My older daughter's already begging me for a crown for her next birthday! ...... I don't want to think about that though... my girls are getting big so quickly!  For now I just want to savor ages 4 and 6...slow down babies!  You're getting big so quickly!
