Memories in Miniature

My mom has inherited several china sets from her family, including some teacups that her grandmother painted herself.  I always loved looking at them as a kid and imagined all of the great tea parties which could I could have with my dolls.  My favorite set was a small set of little blue dishes with pink flowers (pictured above).  My girls have been really into their dollhouse lately, and have been hosting lots of tea parties.  I thought it might be fun to make a china set for their dollhouse, inspired by my favorite tea set of my mom's.

I suggested that we get some polymer clay out and Lu had a ton of fun making sweet goodies (cupcakes, fruit, etc) while I made some china dishes.

Keep reading for some work in progress pictures and the final result!

It's been a LONG time since I worked with polymer clay.  It's so fun!

Try not to focus to much on my ugly fingers and finger nails!

We finished by baking and painting with acrylic paints.  I used toothpicks for the little details...

The final product is far from perfect, but that's ok!

The dollhouse residents seem to like the newest addition to their house and they were a lot of fun to make!  What about you?  Do dollhouses appeal to you?  Have you ever tried to replicate some of your favorite "big things" in miniature scale?
