Let's meet Emma.
Name: Emma, the doodlebug
Lives with: her mommy, daddy, big brother, and little sister
She likes to: fly, she plays in the sky and likes to jump on clouds
Special talent: Anything she draws or paints becomes real. She drew all over her walls--pictures of mountains and friends
Favorite color: pink
Favorite food: chocolate covered flies
Her bedroom: She has a rooftop room where there are bunkbeds which she shares with her older brother.
Oh, and what's a doodlebug you ask? It's based off of a real bug! (Yes, yes, I know. Sneaky mommy bringing in bits of biology into Lu's story. But when Lu told me that her bug was an artist, I just couldn't help myself.) When I showed her the picture of the designs the real doodlebugs made in the sand, she exclaimed, "But I make designs in the sand too! I'm just like a doodlebug!" So yes, doodlebugs have made it onto the 'cool' list at our house. And I couldn't be more pleased.
I drew up a Snugglebug paper doll and some outfits to match some of the stories that Lu told me about her doodlebug.
Here's Emma in her bug outfit with her painted wings.
I made a colored-in version, but I also made a version that Lu could color in herself.
Lu was super excited to color in her own:
I really need to get her some skin tone markers. Lu was quite disappointed with having to use orange. She didn't seem to mind too much in the end though, and seemed very proud of her paper doll. We cut them out and the two Snugglebugs have been best of friends ever since. Lu's been enjoying changing their clothes and taking them on all sorts of adventures.
Here's an outline version of our paper doll, if you or your snugglebug would like to color in your own. I'd love to see your version too--feel free to upload a picture to the Snugglebug University facebook page.
Does your Snugglebug have a story? We'd love to hear it. Leave a comment below or on our facebook page and I'll share your stories with Lu.
This is just our first Snugglebug paper doll--check back soon for more!
Interested in the colored in version? You can also buy my (colored-in) version of the doodlebug in my Etsy store.
These are so cute and a wonderful idea! A great way to get the kiddos to use their imagination and bring their story telling to life! Thanks so much for sharing! I will be using this template with my niece! ❤️
