Remember how I said I had candy on the brain? Well, it wasn't just because of Halloween. In fact, this story started a long, long time ago. Like a year ago.
This post started it all for me. I checked out the source of the wood donuts, and I found several wholesale companies that sold all sorts of wood pieces. I was so excited that I began drafting up all sorts of plans for different things I could make with all of the wood pieces. Toys. Decorations for the kids rooms. Doll furniture. The list goes on and on.
I've always been infatuated with wood toys. In fact, we own lots and lots of wood play food. They are Lu's favorite toys. Like so many little kids, Lu loves to bake, and bake and bake. We have cakes, cupcakes, pizza, etc. But does she make cakes, cupcakes or pizza? Well, sometimes. But most of the time she's making other delicious delicacies: alfajores, arollado, flan. All of the yummy Argentine desserts her grandmother and daddy make. Now that we've been studying other countries at home, her menu has expanded to include all sorts of yummy delicacies from around the world.
I thought it would be awesome to make Lu a set of international wood play food for Christmas, so that she could truly have a world market.
There was one little problem though. I could only find these parts in wholesale amounts. For some reason, I had a hard time explaining to my husband why we NEEDED a few hundred dollars of wood parts. Especially to make like 6 alfajores. So my plans collected some dust while I continued to make other things for and with the girls.
Then I decided to start this blog. And then I got to thinking, well, that just maybe some other little kids might like homemade play food too. And that my kids couldn't be the only kids that were turning pizza into crepes, or alfajores. My thought was that I could work my way through my lofty wood ambition notebook, occasionally making a toy set to sell in my Etsy shop. And that's my plan, friends.
Even though I have big international goals, my first set is actually a bit more local, and inspired by a trip to the boardwalk. A candy store! It's a little late for Halloween, but just in time for Christmas.
The first set should be up in my Etsy shop in a week or less. Here's a little preview:
peppermints:
peach rings:
caramel apples:
snow cones:
Fudge, whoopie pies, money, and more! All in all, a whole sweet shop!
Look for it (and more!) soon in the grand opening of my ETSY shop!
